Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native was raised and born there. Pam is her mom. She has been a backup singer in the past at Philadelphia International Records. When she was five the father of her was appointed as one of the cities' Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Her family later moved into this historical building. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with a vocal music major. Sullivan sang as a contralto singer for the choir for children and later after a couple of years later, she was a singer as an adult in the choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was initially minimal "I performed solos at the church, and I was asked to sign to a gospel label before I was eleven but I wasn't ready to do that," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's was hosting a contest for kids in major cities and I was offered the chance to sing 'Accept Whatever God Does' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". Stevie Wonder sang her part when he turned 13. Sullivan, at age 15 was signed for the first time to Jive Records. In the age group of 15 she signed with Jive Records. The label recorded an entire album in Jive Records and it didn't get made available for release. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. Missy Elliott was her producer for several songs on Her debut album. Among them "Backstabbers", a buzz song produced by Timbaland, was written by Elliott.
